The house

A Painted Lady since 1884

Built after the Civil War by Captain John Bridgeford and his wife Mary, both prominent members of the community, this Queen Anne / Eastlake home sits in the heart of the Eureka Springs Historic District. The house itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has welcomed overnight guests since the 1980s.

Wander the secret garden below street level, rock on the front porch, or take the easy stroll downtown past antique shops, galleries, and spas.

Exploring Eureka Springs

A Victorian mountain town built around its springs, with winding streets, art galleries, and chapels in the woods. Here is how to make a day of it from our front porch.

See and do

Historic Downtown

Antique shops, art galleries, day spas, and restaurants along winding Victorian streets. A few blocks from our door.

Free · Short stroll

The Springs

The natural springs that named the town. Several are signed and walkable downtown, perfect for a slow morning loop.

Free · Short stroll

St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church

A landmark Catholic church on the hillside, entered through its bell tower. Easy to reach on foot from Spring Street.

Free · Short stroll

Thorncrown Chapel

A glass chapel rising out of the Ozark woods. Quiet, light-filled, and unlike anything else in town.

Free · About 10 min drive

Christ of the Ozarks

The seven-story statue on Magnetic Mountain with sweeping views over the valley, especially at sunset.

Free · About 5 min drive

The Great Passion Play

One of America's most-attended outdoor dramas, performed in season on a hillside stage east of town.

Ticketed · About 8 min drive

Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway

A vintage excursion train through the Ozark foothills. A fun, unhurried half day out.

Ticketed · Short drive

Beaver Lake

Clear water for swimming, kayaking, and shoreline picnics when the town heat calls for a cool escape.

Free · About 20 min drive

Eating and avoiding the traps

  • Downtown Eureka Springs has a dense cluster of restaurants, from Southern comfort to fine dining. In peak season, reserve dinner before you arrive.
  • Avoid circling for downtown parking: our free private lot is a few blocks away, and the town is made for walking.
  • The streets are steep and the sidewalks uneven. Wear sturdy shoes, and take it slow after rain.

Getting here and staying safe

  • The nearest commercial airport is Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA), roughly an hour's drive away. Driving in is the easiest option, with free parking on site.
  • Deer cross the winding roads at dusk and dawn. Drive slowly after dark.
  • Ozark weather changes fast. Bring a layer even on warm days, and keep to lit paths at night.
